Churp Churp Alpha – DJ Fuzz

When anyone asks about the deejaying industry in Malaysia, this icon is definitely one of the first who stands out as a prominent answer. This astonishing DJ holds a strong record of championships and tours below his belt, years of various involvements in the media industry and an all-rounder when it comes to his taste of music mix.

He now owns his very own deejay academy which caters to anyone (including celebrities like Patricia K and Daphne Iking ) who wants to get the feel and right techniques in mixing beats with their creativity and originality.

Our awesome Alpha Deejay also spins for one of the most established local radio stations in Malaysia. This man is a definite force to be reckoned with when it comes to producing awesome music. Spotlight of the week’s on Fuzzmatazz; here is Churp Churp’s exclusive one on one with DJ Fuzz!

How did you start your career in the radio industry?
I started Djing for a mixshow on Red FM because my crew Mizz Nina was there and she wanted to have a different flava for the urban shows so I was like, “OK let’s do this!”. Then I got another offer to another station, then another, now Im doing a mixshow on Era FM called ‘Dansaera’ where we mix Malaysian and international music together. Saturday nights 11 pm.

What are your other passions aside creating awesome beats and music?
In my career? Well I enjoy creating mixtapes, I enjoy teaching at my DJ school, been doing this for at least 8 years now. I have just released a book called “The Way of the DJ” because I love teaching and I wanna share what I have learned so far.

Do you have your own studio and do you train new people in the industry?
I have this DJ school called Beat Kitchen. It is located at Solaris Mont Kiara where we train people at any age, how to DJ. We also got DJ and production equipment shop as well as a recording studio, all at the same outlet. That is where I do all my production stuff, new songs etc.

What is your biggest accomplishment?
In Deejaying: I think I have 6 Malaysian Championship titles that I have won from 2003-2006. I have represented Malaysia for the World and Asian Finals.
I released a book on how to DJ, personally that’s one of my biggest achievements, even though there was no award given for it.
In music making: I have a few awards for best albums/single and all that.

What do you love doing aside from being a Deejay?
I like to do research on this artform, I like reading about other DJs, how to diversify, how to expand, besides being a DJ, I enjoy the business aspects of it. I love travelling as well.

Favourite type of Music?
I grew up listening to Hip Hop but now I listen to everything. I listen to different kinds of music in different situations. For example, dance music when driving or Gamelan when Im in long flights.

What’s your favourite sport and why do you love it?
I’m not a sports type of person but I learn muay thai to keep fit. I love it because it helped me to lose so much weight and I like the culture, and the ideology, as well as the discipline of this art.

Have you ever injured yourself due to this sport? How critical was it?
I have, but nothing serious. But I have KO’d before when I was in a Taekwondo tournament in 1993. I blacked out for a few seconds, all from a nice left hook punch from the opponent. And of course, he was disqualified because its an illegal move in TaeKwonDo competitions.

Your advice for those who wants to pick up a sport as intense as what you’re into now.
Do it now, its not painful, unless u become a fighter. During training, nobody gets hurt if u follow the safety procedures. My wife, my sister and my female artistes are practising it. It’s good for health. Muay thai will help u to lose weight.

What are your favourite foods?
I love Mexican food, I like spicy food as well.

What is your idea of a perfect getaway?
Any metropolitan city. With old buildings with history and culture.

Any interesting hobbies you’d like to share with us?
I love to read. Not story books but ‘how to’ books. I have a huge collection of Kung Fu/martial art movies. Just go to a DVD store in Malaysia, maybe Speedy or something -pick up a kung fu DVD, chances that I might have that in my collection, sometimes a few pcs for one title, sometimes I got it on VCD and DVD.

Tell us an unforgettable experience.
When I saw a CD for the first time, thats back in the early 90’s. I was so amazed, wow u can skip to the next track with just one button!

What kind of character of the opposite sex that you find appealing?
I like girly girls but not the whiny type.

What is the best pick-up line that you’ve ever received?
I’m a guy, so I have never received one, besides I think pick up lines are corny, they don’t work. I believe in a straight up “Hi, whats your name, introduce myself” kinda thing.

What kind of movie do you love watching?
Martial Arts flick, Comedy, maybe some hip hop/gangsta movies from back in the 90’s.

Who is your idol and why?
Probably Russell Simmons ; because he is a successful entrepreneur and philanthropist. A true believer in balance in life-spiritual and materialism. Russell Simmons helped Run DMC to become big, also founded the legendary record label Def Jam. Maybe another would be Robert Kiyosaki, I learned a lot from him through his books, namely Rich Dad Poor Dad etc

Facebook? I dont really remember, in the early days when they used to have Vampire games and all that apps. I started Twitter probably 2 years ago.

My inbox, for orders lol.
Current events, what’s goin on in the scene right now. Basically everything.

What do you tweet/ update your Facebook about most?
What do I do everyday, because I do different things everyday, my shows and new releases. I would usually twitpic the food that I eat and stuff.
